How to unzip a file in 3 steps

  1. 1

Open the ZIP file; if it has a password, type it when asked.

  2. 2

Browse the list of files with their sizes and folders.

  3. 3

Download the files you need one by one, or all of them together.

Your files never leave your device

This tool runs entirely inside your browser. The file is never uploaded to any server: it is read, processed and downloaded on your own device. When you close or reload the page, it is gone from memory.

When you can't open a ZIP

Someone sends you a ZIP and your device won't cooperate: a phone that saves it but doesn't show what's inside, a work computer where you can't install software, a Chromebook, or a password-protected ZIP that Windows or macOS refuses to open. This tool opens it directly in the browser.

It handles regular ZIP files, ZIP64 files (the format used for very large archives) and password-protected ZIPs with AES or ZipCrypto encryption. It can list up to 5000 files.

Look before you extract

Before downloading anything, you see the full list of files, their sizes and the folders they are in. That way you can grab only the invoice you need from a big archive of documents, the one photo from a shared album, or check what a ZIP contains before extracting it.

Download files one by one, or all at once. When you download everything, you get a new ZIP that keeps the original folder structure, which is useful on phones where many separate downloads are awkward.

Password-protected ZIP files

Windows and macOS can't open ZIPs encrypted with AES-256 without extra software. Here you type the password and the files are decrypted in your browser. ZipCrypto files open too. If you don't know the password, ask the person who sent the file: this tool doesn't guess or bypass passwords.

As with any file from the internet, be careful with programs or documents from senders you don't know, even if they arrive inside a ZIP.

Limits and privacy

Only ZIP files can be opened. RAR and 7z archives are different formats and are not supported; you'll need a program such as 7-Zip or WinRAR for those. Very large archives depend on your device's memory, so they may be slow on an older phone.

The ZIP is opened in your browser. Its contents and the password are not uploaded to any server or stored. It is free, without an account and without limits on how many files you open. To make your own ZIP, use Zip files.

Once the files are out, you can keep working on them without leaving the site. A PDF from the archive can go straight to Merge PDF or Compress PDF, a spreadsheet in CSV can be turned into Excel with the CSV to Excel converter, and photos can be resized or converted with the image tools. Nothing needs to be uploaded at any step.
