Your files never leave your device

This tool runs entirely inside your browser. The file is never uploaded to any server: it is read, processed and downloaded on your own device. When you close or reload the page, it is gone from memory.

What PDF metadata is

Besides its pages, every PDF can carry a small set of descriptive fields: a title, an author, a subject, keywords, the application that created it and the producer that generated the file. Many PDFs also include XMP metadata, a more detailed block of the same kind of information. You rarely see these fields, but they travel with the file wherever it goes.

They are filled in automatically by the program that made the PDF, which is why they are often wrong, empty or more revealing than you expect. This tool shows you what is there and lets you change it.

Make the title look right

When you open a PDF in a browser or many readers, the window or tab shows the document title from the metadata, not the file name. If the title field says something like “Microsoft Word - draft_v3_final” or an old project name, that is what your readers will see. Setting a proper title, such as “2026 Annual Report” or your full name and “Résumé”, gives the file a professional finish.

Subject and keywords describe the content. Some document management systems, libraries and search tools read them, so filling them in can help people find the file later.

Don’t leave your username behind

The author field is often filled with the account name of the computer that created the document. That can be your personal name, a nickname, or a login from an old job. Before you send a file to a client, publish it on a website or submit it to an employer, you may prefer that it doesn’t carry that detail.

You can edit the author field, or remove all metadata at once, including the XMP block. The content of the pages doesn’t change at all: the text, images and layout stay exactly as they were. If the pages themselves hold information you need to hide, use Redact PDF instead.

Everyday uses

A freelancer sends proposals built from an old template and fixes the title and author on each one. A school publishes forms on its website and gives each PDF a clear title so the browser tab reads well. An office cleans the metadata from documents before they go to an outside party. A writer adds keywords to an ebook-style PDF so it is easier to catalog.

It is also a quick way to simply look: open a PDF you received and check which program produced it or who is listed as its author, without changing anything else.

Your PDF is processed in your browser and never leaves your device; nothing is stored on our side. ConvertirDocs is 100% free, with no sign-up, no usage limits and no paid tier. Password-protected files need to be unlocked first with Unlock PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Which metadata fields can I edit?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator application and producer.

Can I remove all the metadata at once?

Yes. The remove option clears every field, including the XMP metadata.

Will editing metadata change my pages?

No. The text, images and layout stay exactly the same. Only the descriptive fields change.

Why does my PDF show the wrong title in the browser tab?

The tab shows the title stored in the metadata. Change the title field here and the new one will appear.

What are the creator and producer fields?

Creator is the application the document was written in, and producer is the software that generated the PDF. You can edit or clear both.

Does removing metadata hide sensitive text on the pages?

No. It only affects the descriptive fields. To remove content from the pages, use Redact PDF.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser and the file stays on your device.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no account, no limit and no paid version.
