Why IRCC needs one file per field
According to the official IRCC Help Centre, checked in September 2026, you can only upload one file per field. If you upload a second file into the same field, only the last one is kept, and the earlier one is replaced without much warning. IRCC's own suggestion is to combine your PDFs into a single PDF.
That affects fields like proof of employment, proof of funds, police certificates with translations and passport pages, where you usually have several separate documents.
Plan the order before merging
Write down what goes into the field and in what order. Put the main document first, for example the reference letter before the pay stubs, and keep each translation right after the document it translates. Turn sideways pages upright with “Rotate PDF” before merging.
Paper documents can go through “Scan to PDF” on your phone first, and existing photos through “JPG to PDF”. Then merge everything here.
Merging doesn't lower quality
ConvertirDocs copies the pages as they are, without recompressing them, so the merged file looks exactly like the originals. Bookmarks from the original files may be lost. The tool is 100% free, needs no sign-up, and runs in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.
Then check the size limit
Merging adds up the sizes, so the combined file is where limits bite. The IRCC Help Centre lists 4 MB per file for the secure account, the citizenship application, the Permanent Residence Portal and the asylum portal, and 5 MB for the IRCC Portal. If your merged PDF is too big, send it straight to “Compress PDF” and type a target just under your limit.
If the upload fails, confirm you uploaded the merged file and not one of the parts, count the pages, and check the size and extension again.
