An iLovePDF Alternative That Doesn't Upload Your Files

How iLovePDF and ConvertirDocs differ on file uploads, free-plan limits, sign-up and price, based on iLovePDF's official pages, checked in September 2026.

· 6 min read

iLovePDF is one of the best-known PDF sites on the web, and for good reason: it has a long list of tools, a clean interface, desktop and mobile apps, and features that need real server power. If you're looking for an alternative, it's usually for one of three reasons: you'd rather your documents didn't travel to someone else's server, you keep hitting the free plan's limits, or you don't want another subscription.

This guide compares the two honestly. Everything we say about iLovePDF comes from its own official pages, according to its official pages, checked in September 2026, and the links are listed at the end. Plans and policies change, so check those pages before you decide.

Where your files go

This is the biggest difference between the two services, and it's about how they're built.

iLovePDF processes files on its servers. According to its official FAQ, checked in September 2026, files stay on its servers "for a maximum of 2 hours" so you can download them, and are then removed. You can also delete a document yourself at the end of each task. Its security page adds that all processed files are "automatically and permanently deleted within two hours", with one exception: signed documents are kept for up to 5 years for legal reasons. The same pages say uploads use HTTPS/SSL encryption and that the company complies with the GDPR.

That's a reasonable, clearly documented policy. Still, it means each PDF you compress or convert makes a round trip to a server and waits there for a while.

ConvertirDocs does all of its work in your browser. Tools like Compress PDF, Merge PDF, Split PDF, PDF to Word and Sign PDF run on your own phone or computer. The file never leaves your device, so there's nothing to delete afterward because nothing was sent.

Today every ConvertirDocs tool runs in your browser: no file ever leaves your device.

Free plan limits

iLovePDF's free plan is generous for occasional use, but it has limits. Its pricing page, checked in September 2026, describes the free Basic plan as "Access to essential iLovePDF tools" with "Limited document processing". The same page lists limits per tool for the free plan. Some examples:

  • File size per task: 100 MB for Merge PDF, 200 MB for Compress PDF, 15 MB for Word to PDF and PDF to Word, 40 MB for Image to PDF.
  • Files per task: up to 25 PDFs in Merge, 2 in Compress, 1 in Word to PDF or PDF to Word.

The Premium plan raises most of those limits considerably.

ConvertirDocs has no usage limits and no paid tier. You can use any tool as many times as you want. The only limits are technical: browser tools depend on your device's memory (the site shows a warning, not a block, with files over 150 MB on a phone or 500 MB on a computer).

Sign-up and price

iLovePDF doesn't require an account for its free plan. Its terms and conditions, checked in September 2026, list a "Free Account unregistered user" among its account types, alongside a registered free account. Creating an account gives you access to more options.

According to its pricing page, checked in September 2026, iLovePDF Premium costs US$9 per month billed monthly, or US$5 per month billed annually (US$60 per year). Premium adds unlimited processing, access across web, mobile and desktop, digital signatures, workflows, an ad-free experience and 2,000 AI credits. A Business plan for teams of 25 or more is quoted on request, and the page also offers a free year of Premium for students and academics.

ConvertirDocs is 100% free. There's no account, no email, no trial that expires and no paid version. The site will be supported by ads, which aren't active yet.

What iLovePDF does well

A fair comparison has to say this clearly: iLovePDF offers things ConvertirDocs doesn't.

  • More tools and server-side features. Its pricing page lists tools like Web to PDF, Scan to PDF, Compare and Redact, plus OCR options for Office conversions. Server-side conversions such as high-fidelity Word to PDF are its home ground. ConvertirDocs doesn't convert Word, PowerPoint or Excel to PDF yet; for that, a server-based service like iLovePDF is the better choice today.
  • AI tools. An AI Summarizer and Translate PDF, with AI credits on Premium. ConvertirDocs has no AI features.
  • Apps. A desktop app for Windows and Mac, which its desktop page says can process tasks offline, and mobile apps for iOS and Android.
  • Signatures and teamwork. Digital signatures, requesting signatures from others through iLoveSign, workflows and team billing. ConvertirDocs only offers a simple visual signature for yourself, not a certificate-based digital signature, and it can't send documents to other people to sign.
  • Cloud import. Its FAQ explains you can bring files in from Google Drive or Dropbox and save them back.

If you depend on any of those, iLovePDF is a solid choice.

How ConvertirDocs is different

  • Your files stay with you. No tool uploads anything. That matters for ID scans, contracts, medical records, tax forms and anything else you'd rather keep private.
  • No sign-up and no limits. Nothing to register and no daily caps or per-task file counts.
  • Office-style editors in the browser. The Word editor creates or opens a .docx, lets you format text, lists, tables and images, and saves it as .docx or prints it to PDF. The spreadsheet opens .xlsx and .csv files and handles common formulas like SUM, AVERAGE and IF. Neither uses a cloud: the document lives in your tab until you download it.

ConvertirDocs has its own limits too. It doesn't edit text that's already in a PDF, the Word editor doesn't keep headers, footers or tracked changes, and it doesn't convert Word, PowerPoint or Excel to PDF yet.

Which one should you use?

Choose iLovePDF if you need AI tools, a large catalog, certificate-based or requested signatures, cloud storage integration, team features, or very large files on a paid plan.

Choose ConvertirDocs if you mainly compress, merge, split, convert, sign and fill PDFs, and you'd rather your documents didn't leave your device, without creating an account or counting tasks.

Plenty of people use both: a free, private tool for everyday documents, and a full suite when a job really needs it.
