How to Turn Photos Into a PDF on Your Phone
Convert one or several photos into a PDF on Android or iPhone. The built-in options, how to combine several photos in order, and how to shrink the file.
· 6 min read
Someone asks you for "the document as a PDF", and all you have is a photo in your gallery: an ID card, a receipt, a letter, one page of a contract. Or worse, five photos that have to go together, in order, in a single file. You don't need a computer or a new app. You can do it from your phone in a couple of minutes.
This guide starts with the options your phone already has (Android and iPhone), including their limits, and then shows how to do it in ConvertirDocs when you need to combine several photos, give them a proper page size, or keep the file small.
First: do you already have the photo?
There are two different situations, and it pays to pick the right path from the start:
- The photos are already in your gallery. You just need to convert them: one photo to one PDF, or several photos into a single PDF.
- The paper is in front of you and you haven't taken the photo yet. Then scan it directly instead: you crop the edges, fix the perspective and apply a document filter. The result is easier to read and usually lighter than an ordinary photo of a sheet on a table.
Built-in option on Android: Print and "Save as PDF"
Android's gallery has no "convert to PDF" button, but Chrome's print feature can do it. According to Google Chrome Help for Android (checked in October 2026), the steps are:
- Open the Chrome app.
- Open the page, image or file you want to print.
- At the top right, tap More, then Share.
- Select Print.
- At the top, where the printer is, choose Save as PDF.
- Choose where to save the PDF on your device.
It works, but it has practical limits: one image at a time, no way to put several photos in order into one PDF, and little control over margins and page size. Menus may also differ depending on the phone brand and Android version. For a single photo with no special requirements, it's enough.
Built-in option on iPhone: export to PDF from Preview
On iOS versions that include the Preview app, Apple's iPhone User Guide (checked in October 2026) explains that you can export an image or PDF to other formats, PDF among them:
- Open the Preview app on your iPhone.
- Open the image.
- Tap the button next to the file name, then tap Export.
- Choose PDF as the format. Apple lists options such as Optimize Images for Screen, which creates a smaller file.
- Choose where to save it, rename it if you like, and save.
This is also one image at a time. If your iPhone doesn't have Preview, or you need several photos in one document, read on.
With ConvertirDocs: one photo or many, in the right order
ConvertirDocs runs in your phone's browser (any modern browser). Your photos are not uploaded to any server: the PDF is built on your phone and downloaded.
One photo to PDF
- Open Photo to PDF.
- Tap to pick the photo from your gallery.
- Choose the page size: A4, Letter, or same as the image. If the PDF will be printed or uploaded to a portal, A4 or Letter usually looks more like a real document.
- Choose orientation (automatic, portrait or landscape) and margin (none, small or large).
- Convert and download.
The tool respects the camera orientation, so a photo taken upright shouldn't come out sideways.
Several photos in one PDF
This is the most common case: front and back of an ID, or several photographed pages.
- Open Combine images into PDF.
- Select all the photos at once from your gallery.
- Drag the thumbnails to reorder them. Check carefully: the order you see is the page order of the PDF.
- Pick page size, orientation and margin. Using the same size for every page (A4 or Letter) makes the document look consistent even when the photos have different proportions.
- Convert and download a single PDF.
It accepts JPG, PNG and WEBP. iPhone HEIC photos only work if the browser can open them (Safari can; other browsers may not). If a HEIC file is rejected, open the tool in Safari.
If the paper is in front of you: scan it
- Open Scan to PDF and allow camera access (without permission you can still pick photos from the gallery).
- Take a photo of each page.
- Adjust the crop by dragging the four corners: the tool corrects the perspective so the page comes out straight.
- Apply a filter: black and white for text documents, grayscale or more contrast if the photo came out dark.
- Reorder or delete pages if needed, choose A4, Letter or same as the photo, and download the PDF.
If the PDF is too large
Phone photos have far more pixels than a document needs, so a PDF of five photos can weigh several megabytes. Many portals set a limit (1 MB, 2 MB, 5 MB).
- Run the PDF through Compress PDF. Start with the Recommended level.
- If you were given an exact size, use the target-size mode or a shortcut such as Compress PDF to 2 MB.
- Open the result and zoom in: numbers and small print must still be readable.
You don't need to pick the file again: "What else do you want to do?" sends the new PDF straight to the compressor. If the tool can't reach the requested size, it gives you the smallest result it managed and explains why.
Tips for a clean PDF
- Good light, no direct flash. Flash often leaves a white glare right on the text.
- A dark, plain background under the page makes the edges easy to find when cropping.
- Hold the phone parallel to the page, not tilted. Perspective correction helps, but the straighter the photo, the better.
- Name the file clearly, for example
id-front-and-back.pdf. - Check the PDF before sending it: every page present, in order, and readable.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to the internet? No. Photo to PDF, Combine images into PDF, Scan to PDF and Compress PDF all work inside the browser. The file doesn't leave your phone until you send it.
How many photos can I combine? The site sets no cap on uses or files; the real limit is your phone's memory. With a very large number of big photos, the browser may slow down.
Do I need an account or an app? No. It's free with no sign-up. You can install ConvertirDocs as an app from the browser if you want, but you don't have to.
Why doesn't Android's Print option let me pick several photos? Because it's designed to print whatever is open. To combine several photos into one PDF, use Combine images into PDF.
Will I be able to copy the text from the photo? Not directly: a photo turned into a PDF is an image inside the PDF. If you need to search or copy the text, run the OCR tool afterwards.
Does my iPhone HEIC photo work? Yes, if you open the tool in Safari. Other browsers may not open it; in that case convert it to JPG first or use Safari.
In short
For a single photo, Android (Chrome > Share > Print > Save as PDF) and iPhone (Preview > Export > PDF) already have you covered. For several photos in order with a consistent page size, use Combine images into PDF; if the paper is in front of you, use Scan to PDF. And if the file is heavy, run it through Compress PDF before sending it.
