The IRCC Portal's size limit
According to the official IRCC Help Centre page on file size limits, checked in September 2026, both the IRCC Portal and the new version of the IRCC Portal accept files of up to 5 MB. Other IRCC systems are stricter: the secure account, the citizenship application, the Permanent Residence Portal and the asylum portal allow 4 MB.
Limits have changed before, so compare this with the limit shown next to your upload button. The IRCC Portal accepts .jpg, .png, .doc, .docx, .tiff and .pdf; PDF is the easiest choice for anything with more than one page.
Build one file for each field
IRCC only keeps one file per field. If a field needs several documents, such as proof of funds from two banks, combine them first with “Merge PDF” in the order an officer should read them, then bring the merged file here. If you only have photos, “JPG to PDF” puts them into one PDF.
What ConvertirDocs does to your file
Only the photos inside the PDF are recompressed. Text and vector graphics stay untouched, so typed text remains sharp and selectable. You see the size before and after, and if the target can't be reached, you get the smallest version possible along with the reason.
It's 100% free and needs no account. Compression runs in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.
Mistakes to avoid and rejected uploads
Don't assume every IRCC system has the same limit; if you're also uploading to a 4 MB account, use the lower target. Don't sacrifice legibility: an officer has to read names, dates and stamps. And count pages before uploading, since signature pages are easy to lose.
If an upload fails, confirm you're really on the IRCC Portal, check the extension and compress again with a lower target. If quality drops too much, remove unneeded pages rather than compressing harder.
