How to create a WiFi QR code in 3 steps

  1. 1

Type the network name (SSID) and the password, choose the security type (WPA, WEP or no password) and mark it if the network is hidden.

  2. 2

Adjust the size and colors and, if you want, add your logo in the center.

  3. 3

Download the QR code as PNG or SVG, print it and scan a test copy before putting it up.

Your files never leave your device

This tool runs entirely inside your browser. The file is never uploaded to any server: it is read, processed and downloaded on your own device. When you close or reload the page, it is gone from memory.

No more spelling out the password

"Is that a zero or the letter O?" Long WiFi passwords are safer, but dictating them to every visitor is a chore. A WiFi QR code solves that: the guest opens the camera, points it at the code and the phone offers to join the network. Most recent iPhones and Android phones do this straight from the camera app.

It is a small detail that guests notice, whether you run a coffee shop, a restaurant, a hair salon, a waiting room, a coworking space, a vacation rental or simply have friends and family over often.

Where to put it

At home, a framed code near the entrance or on the fridge. In a shop or café, a small card by the register or on each table, next to the menu QR code. In a vacation rental, a printed sheet in the welcome folder. In an office, at reception for visitors, ideally pointing to a guest network instead of the one your team uses.

Choose 512 px for a card or a document, 1024 or 2048 px for a poster. SVG is the best choice for print shops, because it stays sharp at any size. If you add your logo, the code uses the highest error correction level and downloads as PNG.

Static code: change the password, change the code

The network name and password are written inside the QR code itself. That means it doesn't expire, it works without internet on the scanning side and it doesn't depend on any company's server. It also means it can't be updated: if you change your WiFi password, the old code stops working and you need to make and print a new one. It doesn't count scans either.

Remember that anyone who scans the code can see the password, and so can anyone who takes a photo of it. For public places, a separate guest network is a good idea.

Your password stays on your device

The code is generated in your browser. Your network name and password are not sent to any server and are not stored. It is free, without an account, without watermarks and without a limit on codes. If you need to read a WiFi code someone else made, the QR code scanner shows the network name and password from an image.

Frequently asked questions

Do phones join the network automatically?

Most recent iPhones and Android phones offer to join when the camera reads the code. The user still has to confirm.

What happens if I change my WiFi password?

The old code stops working, because the password is written inside it. Generate a new code and replace the printed one.

Which security type should I choose?

The one your router uses. Most networks today use WPA or WPA2, which are under WPA. Choose "no password" only for open networks.

Does it work with hidden networks?

Yes. Mark the network as hidden so the phone knows to look for it.

Is it safe to type my password here?

The code is created in your browser and your password is not sent or saved. Keep in mind that anyone who scans the code can see it.

Does the WiFi QR code expire?

No. It works as long as the network name and password stay the same.
