You got an .ai file and can't open it
It happens all the time: a designer sends you the logo, a flyer or a label as an .ai file, a printer forwards artwork for approval, or you download a vector graphic from a template site. Without Adobe Illustrator, your computer may not know what to do with it, and your phone almost certainly won't.
PDF is the easy way out. Anyone can open a PDF on any device, print it, attach it to an email or send it to a print shop. This tool gives you that PDF in seconds, from your browser.
How it works: the PDF is already inside
When Illustrator saves an .ai file with the option “Create PDF Compatible File” turned on, which is the default, it stores a full PDF version of the artwork inside the file. In practice, such an .ai file already is a PDF with a different extension.
So ConvertirDocs doesn't redraw or recompress anything. It checks the file and hands it back to you as it is, with the .pdf extension. The vector shapes, text and colors are exactly what Illustrator saved, and the file size stays the same. That also means the result is as faithful as possible: nothing is rasterized and nothing is lost.
When it doesn't work
If the designer turned off “Create PDF Compatible File” when saving, the .ai file has no PDF inside and only Illustrator can read it. In that case ConvertirDocs tells you clearly instead of giving you a broken file. The fix is simple: ask whoever sent it to save it again with that option on, or to export a PDF directly.
Very old .ai files, from versions of Illustrator before PDF compatibility existed, may also not open. Files from any recent version saved with default settings work.
Need an image instead?
If you want to post the design on social media, put it on a website or drop it into a slide, a PDF may not be the right format. Use AI to PNG for a sharp image with good quality for graphics, or AI to JPG for a lighter file. Those tools create one image per artboard at 200 dpi.
Everything happens in your browser. Your artwork is never uploaded or stored, so client designs and unreleased branding stay private. There's no account, no sign-up and no limit.
