One icon maker for every format
Your source image can come from anywhere: a PNG logo from your designer, a JPG photo, a WEBP saved from a website, an SVG from an icon library, a GIF or BMP from an old computer, or even an AVIF or HEIC photo when your browser can open it. This page accepts all of them and turns each one into an .ico file, so you don't need to convert the format first.
The result is a proper icon file that Windows and browsers understand. Use it as the favicon of your website or online store, as a custom icon for a folder, a drive or a desktop shortcut, or as the icon of a small program, an Electron app or a game mod.
What's inside the .ico
A single .ico holds the same picture at several sizes, from 16 to 256 pixels. Browser tabs and file lists use the small ones; the desktop and large icon views use the bigger ones. The icon is square and its background is transparent, so it blends with light and dark themes.
If your image isn't square, it's fitted inside the square. Crop it to 1:1 first with “Crop image” when you want the picture to fill the icon completely.
Which source image works best
SVG and large PNG files with a transparent background give the cleanest icons. An SVG is drawn at 2000 pixels on its longer side, which is more than enough detail for the largest icon size. A PNG should ideally be at least 256 pixels on each side, so nothing has to be enlarged.
JPG and most photos have no transparency, so a white or colored background stays in the icon. For a logo on plain white, use “Remove white background” first and then convert the transparent PNG here. Keep in mind that at 16 pixels only bold shapes survive: a simple symbol or initial is more recognizable than a detailed picture with text.
Done on your device, free
Your images are converted in your browser and are never uploaded or stored anywhere. There's no account and no limit on the number of icons: convert a whole set at once and download them together in a ZIP. If you need the icon back as a regular picture later, “ICO to PNG” does the reverse.
