How to convert an image to WEBP in 3 steps

  1. 1

Select one or more images in any supported format. WEBP is already set as the output.

  2. 2

Choose the quality: higher keeps more detail, lower makes lighter files.

  3. 3

Press “Process” and download the WEBP images, one by one or together in a ZIP.

Your files never leave your device

This tool runs entirely inside your browser. The file is never uploaded to any server: it is read, processed and downloaded on your own device. When you close or reload the page, it is gone from memory.

Why websites use WEBP

WEBP is a web image format that handles photos and graphics in one format, supports transparency, and tends to produce lighter files than JPG and PNG for the same look. Lighter images mean pages that load faster, which helps visitors on slow mobile connections and is one of the things site owners look at when they work on page speed.

That's why people building websites, online stores, blogs and landing pages convert their images to WEBP before uploading them. Instead of installing a plugin or a desktop program, you can convert a batch right here.

Typical uses

A store owner with product photos straight from the camera or the phone wants faster product pages. A blogger wants the featured images of a post to stop slowing the page down. A developer needs WEBP versions of a set of PNG icons and screenshots for a web app. Someone making stickers for a messaging app needs transparent WEBP images.

WEBP is a good fit for screens. For print, email attachments to people using older software, or forms that list “JPG only”, choose Image to JPG instead.

Inputs, transparency and quality

This page accepts JPG, PNG, GIF (first frame), BMP, AVIF, ICO, SVG, TIFF, PSD, Illustrator .ai, JPEG XL, HEIC and camera RAW files, with the same conditions as the other converters: HEIC needs Safari, or Chrome on a device with an HEVC decoder; PSD needs “Maximize Compatibility”; RAW files use the camera's built-in JPEG preview. If a file can't be opened, you'll see a clear message.

Transparent backgrounds stay transparent. For photos, medium quality usually looks the same as the original on screen; for images with small text or sharp lines, keep the quality high. If you also want smaller dimensions, which often saves even more weight, use “Resize image” before or after converting.

Works on iPhone too

WEBP output works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox and also in Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac. When a browser can't encode WEBP by itself, ConvertirDocs downloads an encoder only for that case, so you get the same result on any device.

Private and free

Images are converted on your device and never uploaded. There's no account and no limit, and several images download together in a ZIP. EXIF data, including GPS location, isn't copied into the WEBP, which is also good practice for images you publish online. ConvertirDocs is 100% free.

Frequently asked questions

Will WEBP make my images smaller?

Usually yes, compared with PNG and often compared with JPG at a similar look. The result depends on the image and the quality you choose.

Does WEBP support transparency?

Yes. Transparent areas in PNG, SVG or other files stay transparent.

Can everyone open WEBP files?

All modern browsers can. Some older desktop programs can't, so for documents and forms JPG is safer.

Should I use WEBP or AVIF for my site?

Both are modern web formats. AVIF can be smaller but is slower to create; WEBP is quicker and accepted by more platforms and plugins.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Yes. Select all the images and download the WEBP versions together in a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser and your images never leave your device.

Is converting to WEBP slow?

No, it's usually quick, even on a phone. Very large photos or big batches simply take a little longer, depending on your device.
